Research Interests
- Professor Fang Chen has been dedicated to fundamental research in aircraft overall system design, multi-field coupling, combustion, and heat transfer, with a focus on green aviation system design, intelligent maintenance of engines, and thermal safety of aerospace vehicles. He leads the Shanghai Smart Power System Joint Innovation Center, the Aerospace Industry Innovation Joint R&D Center, and the China-Russia Joint Innovation Center for Aerospace Mechanics. He also serves as a member of the Chinese Society for Aerospace Power Special Committee, a national professional standardization technical committee member, a specially appointed expert for the Aerospace Foundation’s Aerospace Power Special Fund, and an editorial board member for Journal of Propulsion Technology, Propulsion and Energy, Green Aviation Series, and Aerospace Research Communications.
- He has established a 2,000 m² experimental base in the “Grand Neobay” Science and Technology Innovation Zone and a 200-acre flight testing site in Fengxian District. His core team includes one full professor, four associate professors, four mid-level researchers (including one national-level talent and four Shanghai-level talents), one foreign academician, and two foreign associate professors.
Major Research Projects
- Professor Fang Chen has led over 30 national and provincial-level projects, including National Natural Science Foundation projects, major national special projects, “Belt and Road” International Fund project, high-level talent introduction programs from the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Shanghai Joint Innovation Program project, with total research funding exceeding 50 million RMB.
- Professor Fang Chen has published over 80 papers, been granted more than 20 patents and software copyrights, authored two teaching textbooks and two English monographs, and formulated one ISO international standard.

- Professor Fang Chen has received numerous accolades, including the SMC-Morningstar Young Scholar Award. He has also been honored with the China Invention and Entrepreneurship “Person of the Year” Award, a Silver Medal at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, and Second Prize in the Air Force Aviation Innovation Challenge.
