A team of SAA won the highest prize at a national innovation competition

Jan 7th, 2025 371

Recently, the Kunpeng Application Innovation Competition 2024 National Final came to a close.

With the theme of "Digital Intelligence Future, Coming Because of You," the competition encouraged developers to create foundational software and hardware solutions based on Kunpeng's full-stack technology, addressing industrial challenges and contributing to the improvement of China's domestic computing ecosystem.

A student team from the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Network Information Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, guided jointly by the two institutions, overcame numerous challenges. After seven months of intense preparation and three rounds of fierce competition, the team stood out from 80 groups in the research category and won the Gold Award at the National Final, earning the highest honor of this year's competition.

Since its inception in 2020, the Kunpeng Application Innovation Competition has attracted active participation from students at many prestigious universities, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and University of Science and Technology of China.

This year's competition offered several problem tracks for university students, and the team from Shanghai Jiao Tong University chose to directly address the core challenge of the domestic computing ecosystem—the HPC (High-Performance Computing) Application and Solution Innovation Track focused on native application innovation. The task required teams to develop native applications based on the Huawei Kunpeng platform and use a series of Kunpeng development tools to optimize application performance. This posed a significant challenge for the participants: on one hand, they had to develop native applications addressing pain points in specific professional fields; on the other hand, they needed to be highly familiar with the Kunpeng technology ecosystem in order to maximize the optimization of application performance.

In this competition, the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics Overall Aerodynamics Team and the Network Information Center "Jiao Wo Suan" Team joined forces, leveraging their respective strengths in aircraft aerodynamics simulation, numerical modeling, and high-performance computing to collaborate closely.

The School of Aeronautics and Astronautics Overall Aerodynamics Team has been developing its own multi-body configuration aerodynamic simulation software(SuperMan)  since 2008. After more than a decade of continuous development and iterative optimization, the software’s codebase has grown to 200,000 lines. It effectively addresses common challenges in practical engineering aerodynamic simulations, such as difficulties in engineering modeling, poor simulation accuracy, challenges in optimization design, and the complexity of mechanism analysis. Compared to similar commercial software(SuperMan) offers faster convergence, higher computational accuracy, and more convenient iterative optimization.Currently, this software has been applied in a range of research projects related to various aircraft models, playing an important role in aircraft design, optimization, and complex configuration analysis. It has injected new momentum into the development of domestic simulation technology and the innovation of the aerospace industry.
